The Stars for our Troops project is a fun way to honor our Soldiers and Veterans, recycle our retired flags and do a project that can be done by any age in any size group of people in any time frame.

The Star Maker STAR-ter kit consists of a bag of 10 Stars, 2 washed cantons, 100 pouches and 5 "Stars for our Troops" business cards.

Instructions are sent via e-mail, and are not included in the mailed kit.

Due to the demand, only one kit is available for each person or organization. The donation of $15 helps to cover the cost of supplies and postage.
Star Maker Registration

You do not need the Star Maker STAR-ter Kit to become a Star Maker. We recommend getting one if you have not handled a Star. Included in the instructions are how to properly process the flag, the notes to print and cut, a flyer for flag collection, a flyer with information about the Stars for our Troops Project and a Thank You and Thank You Veteran card templates to color and sign on the line inside of the card. Many veterans are signing the cards with their name, rank, branch of service and conflict. These cards are being sent in care packages to those currently serving.
Should you be asked -

How do you dispose of a torn, soiled or damaged flag?
Section 8(k), Chapter 1, Title 4, United States Code states the flag, when it is in such a condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

There are Organizations that are questioning the project called Stars for our Troops, stating it goes against the US Flag Code. The Code is a recommendation on how the flag is handled in different circumstances. Dignity and respectablility are how these Flags and Stars are handled.

The Flag Code was written in1923, when all flags were biodegradable. Today, they are synthetic, thus toxic when burned, may become a glob of plastic when burned at low flame. Flags do not need to be burned, they can be buried and may not disintegrate in 200 years.

Please follow what is in your heart about this project. Do not deny others the right to make their own decision about the project. That is what this country is based upon, the right for each of us to agree to disagree.

Speak to someone that has received a Star. Read the messages received from our soldiers and veterans.

We thank you for your concern.

Please note:
There are NO Flag Police!
Welcome to becoming a Star Maker and bringing Thank You's to so many in a simple way.

This is a wonderful project for those looking for a unique Eagle Scout project. Because there are different steps, from collecting flags, creating and distributing the Stars, it has become a project fitting your abilities and time frame.
